Radio 786 – Life BEYOND breast cancer – a chat with Dr Hoosain about what early detection can mean for life after diagnosis
With kind permission from Radio 786, the full interview is available to listen to below. It’s a warm, open conversation in which Dr Fatima Hoosain speaks frankly about breast cancer treatment and outcomes, explaining in an accessible way what early detection can mean for long-term survival, with survival rates of up to 98% when breast cancer is detected at DCIS or Stage 1.
The conversation also addresses an important misconception: most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. While inherited genetic mutations can increase risk, breast cancer is not dependent on having a family history. Breast cancer in men, although much less common, has a stronger association with inherited genetic mutations, making family history particularly relevant.
