Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Scans
A bone mineral density scan, also known as a BMD scan, is a low-dose X-ray of your body to measure bone mineral content and density. This painless test helps in assessing your risk of fracture and in the diagnosis of osteoporosis.
We can now offer you a BMD scan at the practice, available in addition to an existing breast or thyroid appointment or an appointment on its own.

A detailed report will be provided to you, that includes a fracture risk assessment analysis and suggested management options which you may share with your preferred healthcare provider/s.
If the results indicate that blood tests or an endocrinologist appointment is required, we can refer you for both. For your convenience, the endocrinologist appointment is facilitated at our practice.
For cancer patients, the BMD scan forms part of your oncology plan. Pre-authorisation is required for patients without cancer.
