The works in my Seasons collection reflect the changing emotional landscape experienced by many people affected by breast cancer.

Nature reminds us that no season lasts forever. In much the same way, a cancer journey moves through different seasons, sometimes slowly, sometimes suddenly, and rarely in a neat or predictable order.

Winter represents diagnosis: the shock, fear and uncertainty when the world seems to grow quiet and the road ahead is difficult to see. It is also the deeply personal realisation that, however loved and supported we may be, there are parts of this journey that remain ours alone, fears we must face and strength we must find within ourselves. Yet, beneath even the coldest winter, life is waiting.

Spring brings treatment, courage and the first stirrings of hope. The road may still be difficult, but small signs of renewal begin to appear. Spring does not promise that everything will return to exactly what it was before. Instead, it speaks of renewal: discovering strength we did not know we possessed, accepting help, allowing ourselves  to look forward again, and slowly something within us begins to grow.

Summer represents recovery, strength and a return to living. Light and warmth return. There is a renewed appreciation for our bodies, our relationships and the ordinary moments we may once have taken for granted. Life feels precious because we understand, perhaps more deeply than before, how fragile it can be.

Autumn brings reflection. It is a quieter season, an opportunity to acknowledge what has been lost, recognise what has been gained, let go where we can and carry forward what matters. It speaks of acceptance, perspective and, ultimately, gratitude for life itself.

We may move backwards and forwards between these seasons. There may be winter days in summer and unexpected moments of spring during our darkest times. Every person’s journey is different.

But through all four seasons runs one enduring message:

Things change. Hope returns. Life continues.

Winter. Spring. Summer. Autumn.
Uncertainty. Hope. Strength. Gratitude.

No season lasts forever.
And life, in all its seasons, is precious.
